Generations-For-Peace-GFP-Top500-Global-Advisor-2016-35-Ranking-127 June 2016 – Amman, Jordan: NGO Advisor, a Geneva-based independent media organisation committed to highlighting innovation, impact, and governance in the nonprofit sector, has announced the official 2016 ranking of the ‘Top 500 NGOs in the World’. In the newly-released listings, Generations For Peace is placed at number 35, and is the highest-ranked peace-building NGO in the world. It is also the number one Jordanian NGO on the list.

Generations For Peace empowers youth to lead and cascade sustainable change in countries experiencing conflict, through the use of sport, arts, advocacy, dialogue and empowerment for peace building. The organisation builds on local strengths to help communities transform themselves into tolerant peaceful societies.

Jean-Christophe Nothias, Editor of the ‘Top 500 NGOs’ list, said: “There are few iconic NGOs that truly capture the success of the nonprofit sphere. Despite its young age, Generations For Peace just may be one of them. At first glance, its grassroots peace-building mission seems nearly impossible. Asking youths rather than governments to bring about peace may sound a bit naïve. But when you face Generations For Peace’s army of young, articulate, peace-pushing volunteers, then you understand that something big is going on here. There seems to be no limit to the organisation’s ambition and discipline.”

Reflecting on the organisation’s extraordinary journey over the last nine years, HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein of Jordan, Founder and Chairman of Generations For Peace, said: “This outstanding ranking is recognition of our innovation, impact and sustainability, and a wonderful testament to the dedication and hard work of our volunteers, leading positive change in their own communities around the world. Their drive and achievements in promoting peace, tolerance, and social cohesion are truly inspiring. This ranking will be a wonderful motivational boost for them, and for all our donors and partners who share in this success. I am incredibly proud of all we have accomplished together as a team, and look forward to expanding our reach and impact in even more communities in the future.

Key factors in the ranking included Generations For Peace’s innovative peace-building tools and adaptive programming; the strong focus on impact measurement, participatory evaluation, reflection and learning; the sustainable cost model, and the strong partnerships with United Nations agencies (UNICEF and UNESCO), governmental donors (including the European Union, Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the U.S. Department of State and USAID), and commercial partners (including Samsung, Orange, and DHL Express).

The only peace-through-sport organisation officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee, Generations For Peace has trained, mentored and supported nearly 9,000 peace-building volunteer leaders of youth across fifty countries in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Europe.
