21 September 2015 – Amman, Jordan: In recognition of this globally observed day, HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, Founder and Chairman of Generations For Peace and H.E. Sissel Birgitte Breie, Norway’s Ambassador to Jordan, hosted an International Day of Peace Fundraising Reception at the Ambassador’s residence in Amman, Jordan.
This special event provided an opportunity for those in attendance to celebrate the peace-building efforts of dedicated Generations For Peace volunteers in their local communities. Approximately 150 people attended, including staff and board members, current partners, and many representatives from the diplomatic community in Jordan.
Commenting on the importance of this day, HRH Prince Feisal, said: “The theme of this year’s International Day of Peace, “Partnerships for Peace – Dignity for All”, highlighted the importance of cooperative efforts to transform conflict and create a more peaceful world for society. I am delighted the reception brought together many long-term supporters and partners as well as new friends of Generations For Peace for an evening of shared stories and inspiration. I would also like to express my gratitude to the Royal Norwegian Embassy, without whom this celebration would not have been possible.”
A silent auction took place during the evening with a selection of photos from the organisation’s Jordan-based programmes, which aim to strengthen social cohesion and reduce the risk of violence among Jordanian and Syrian refugee children and youth in vulnerable host communities.
With the valued partnership of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Generations For Peace is able to support critical peace-building work in the Middle East and North Africa.
All proceeds from the event will help support the ongoing work of Generations For Peace to build sustainable peace at the grassroots.
