Michelle Hugo

Research, Education and Outreach Coordinator

Michelle joined the Generations For Peace Institute (GFPI) in August 2019 as the Research, Education and Outreach Coordinator after interning with the Institute for six months. Her new role includes supporting the maintenance and cultivation of partnerships with academic and research institutions, centres and organisations, researchers, and scholarship recipients.

Michelle is from South Africa and grew up in the Unites States, living in Arizona, Illinois, and North Carolina. She studied International Justice and Global Studies with a focus on International Politics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Michelle has experience working for numerous community-based organisations that promote community advocacy and volunteering. Her work with different service and advocacy groups in Greece, Jordan, South Africa, Uganda, and the United States opened her eyes to the value of volunteer-led, research-based programming, which ultimately led her to GFPI.

Michelle is a certified scuba diver and recently learned to surf, despite her fear of the ocean. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, exploring coffee shops, walking around the city, writing, running, and spending time with her friends.
