Programmes: Sport For Peace for Youth

Generations For Peace began implementing programmes in Zimbabwe in 2013. Its Sport For Peace For Youth activities began by targeting students facing conflict driven by ethnicity, social class, and political affiliations in schools and universities, expanding later to include broader communities across Harare, Gweru, and Kwekwe.

Using Sport For Peace to work with youth in a variety of settings and locations across Zimbabwe, GFP programmes help build peace from the grassroots starting with young people. In regions where differences in ethnicity and social class lead to violent conflict in local settings and across the country, we implement sports and sport-based activities that bring together those facing the challenge of conflict and combat the notion that violence is the way to resolve it. Instead, through providing a space in which it is safe to interact and engage with one another, youth from a variety of backgrounds are able to grow in their understanding and acceptance of one another.
