Programmes: Sport and Arts For Peace for Youth

Generations For Peace first introduced its programming in Algeria in late 2014. Beginning with Sport For Peace with an emphasis on youth, we have since expanded to implement Arts For Peace activities that target women and youth who are often subject to violent conflict in the forms of verbal, non-verbal,  and physical abuse, uplifting their self-esteem and confidence to promote conflict transformation.

Algeria is home to widespread violent conflict, particularly against women in the country’s north-eastern region of Constantine. Driven by dominant cultural and social perspectives about the role of women in their communities, verbal and sometimes physical assault occur with frequency in many societal settings, including on the streets, in homes, and at universities. Generations For Peace uses Sport and Arts For Peace to improve the gender relations by fostering mutual understanding and cooperation between female and male youth through enhanced perspective that lends to sustainable peace building in communities.
