Programmes: Sport For Peace for Youth
Generations For Peace first began implementing its programmes in Iraq in 2017. Using Sport For Peace with a life skills component to equip participants with the tools required to build social cohesion, adaptation, and citizenship, the Programmes will reach a target group of over 700 youth, many of whom are internally displaced (IDPs), in six of the country’s governorates.
Since 2014, over 2.25 million Iraqi citizens remain internally displaced, many hailing from Mosul, which has in recent years been a hub for violent conflict. Generations For Peace Programmes target locations with high numbers of IDPs, centring on issues of gender and human rights while providing them with the opportunity to engage in transformational leadership through Sport For Peace Programmes with life skills. Using these activities, we create an environment in which youth from varying backgrounds can engage with one another and build meaningful relationships.
